The Hollow Mountain String Band Returns to Victory Hall
Foot stomping ‘Americeilidh’ music returns to Benderloch with Argyll’s own The Hollow Mountain String Band on Saturday 2nd December.
Lively, fun and energetic performances, combined with up-tempo arrangements and driving rhythms are HMSB hallmarks, with classic songs, original compositions and traditional tunes, as well as the occasional surprise.
Victory Hall will be bouncing with crowd pleasers from favourites such as Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, as well as the band’s own popular originals. The set will take listeners on a transatlantic musical journey via country, old time, honky tonk, ragtime and blues, influenced by traditional Scottish tunes.
This is the first gig without the band’s beloved bass player, Nigel Frydman, who passed away last year. Now they are a foursome, featuring Rab Woods on lead, John McMahon on rhythm guitar, Ann Barlow on fiddle and Michelle McAnally on drums, with members sharing vocal duties.
‘We are looking at getting a new bass player in eventually, but we’ve had so many requests for shows that we decided to give it a whirl as a quartet,’ Rab said. ‘Without Nigel to hold down the bottom end, our sound has changed a wee bit. It’s more acoustic and slightly stripped down, but it still has that kick that always gets folks out on the dance floor.’
‘If The Hollow Mountain String Band were a beer, we know it would be the best fizzy fun lager in the world!’ said Campbell Cameron, who, along with his wife, Joy, organise the Victory Hall Gigs. ‘We invite everyone to come out to the Benderloch Palladium on December 2nd and join in the fun.’
Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start. Tickets are £15 and you can reserve your seats by calling 01631 720 247. There will be a cash bar. Visit The Hollow Mountain String Band and The Victory Hall Gigs on Facebook for more details.
